The Famed Scholz Design Collection

This isn't technically about houses in the Maroondah shire, but it was purchased in Ringwood East, which IS in the Maroondah Shire. Besides, it's my blog so I'll post what I want to post!!

These photos are a snippet of the gem that is a catalogue of housing designs from a company in Ohio, USA. I'm thinking late 50's, early 60's. I purchased it from Railway Bizarre (see side link).

Thank you SO much for posting these pictures. My dad, a mechanical engineer, had this catalog in his files in his home office. I would look at it for hours and hours and hours. It completely set me on the road to loving modern architecture -- a road I'm still on! (Of course, the interiors are more trippy than I ever remember. Swank and swish, indeed.) Post more if you can. You've made the day.

Cheers Rob. I'll try to continue posting. I may be a bit quiet over the pre-Christmas period, but keep checking back. The eye candy will continue...........

The "Mark 65" is gorgeous!! It's my favorite home design ever!! Do you have any of the floor plans to post??

Hi John. There's a very small floor plan. I'll see if I can scan it and I'll post it here for you.

Great pix--thanks so much for sharing! I know it's been some time, but I'm hoping you still may post a scan of the floor plan for the Mark 65. I would LOVE to see it!

I've since won an eBay bid on the brochure and can email you the floorplan, Laurie. Post another comment and it will be forwarded to my email. John.

Does anyone have a copy of the brochure they could send me!?

I recently purchased a Scholz home and it came with all the original floor plans!

I am looking for floor plans from Donald Scholz from the 1960's. My father built several of these in the early 60's and they were truly beautiful homes.

Which house plan are you seeking?

Hi Everyone! I have a degree in architecture from Ball State University College of Architecture and Planning in Indiana where I did my thesis on Scholz Homes. I grew up in a neighborhood that was started with Scholz Homes including a Mark 60 & a Mark 61! However, although I've been searching for years, I have never been able to get my hands on one of the "Red Door" brochures. Anyone know where I can get one? I would be happy with a reproduction. Not looking as a collector, I just want to have it for reading purposes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! P.S. My mom gave the only copy of my thesis to a guy who was renovating an old Scholz in our neighborhood, and never got it back!!! Thanks, Mark Iaconetti Main Beach, QLD

Hi Mark,
I found mine on eBay--I think they show up there from time to time, so you may need to be patient. Very cool about your thesis topic! My husband and I live in a Mark 65 that was built by his grandparents in '69.

In Sept 2010 my partner and I bought a house in Roseville MN that has virtually the exact same entrance of the photo and sketch you have displayed of the Mark 60. Compared to the floor plan you have shown on another page, the bedroom wing is moved to the right, and there's an indoor pool under it. Plus, the garage is a 3-car. Here's a link to the pictures we took before we moved in:

I have a Scholz home, California Contemporary I believe, I'm in Akron, Ohio. I know of about 4 others in the city, one is near identical. There's one on my street with a basement and balcony! Mine is one floor on a slab. Like everybody else, I'd love to see scans of this book or buy one. Thanks! LOVE my house.

Hi, I think we may have just purchased a Scholz home (Sydney). We are still learning about it. We have the same door plates similar to those featured on the red door. I'm wondering how the build might have happened, ie. would someone have bought the plans, complete with some of the fittings and then found a builder, or was there a builder in Australia building Scholz homes?

Hello All, I am new to this. We have recently purchased a Mark 65-B home. I, quite literally, stumbled across this blog when researching ideas for front door colors only to see almost a complete replica of my front entrance! I was quite taken aback and that is what led me on my path to learning about Scholz homes. I actually have the sketches and floor plan diagrams from the original builders, dated 1969. I am excited to learn more about these homes!

We live in a Scholz home in Ontario Canada. We started construction in 1969 and have lived here since. We have the model that has yellow front doors in the brochure, and features a decorative block wall beside the front doors.

My parents own a Mark 65. They had it built the year I was born 1969 and still live in it today (Winchendon, Massachusetts). Not the most practical house for our climate. It was a real privileged to grow up in this house because it was so modern and unique.

Once I originally commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now every time a remark is added I get 4 emails with the same comment. Is there any manner you possibly can take away me from that service? Thanks! online casino real money

These are super nice MCM homes from Scholz Homes. Gives me More than A Feeling and Peace of Mind. LOL, Don Scholz is the father of Boston guitarist and songwriter Tom Scholz.
